Palloventtiilit, also known as ball valves, are a type of quarter-turn valve used to control or isolate flow in a pipeline. They operate by a rotating spherical closure mechanism. The sphere has a hole, or port, through the center. When the port is in line with the pipe, the valve is open and allows fluid to pass. When the port is turned 90 degrees by the handle, it is perpendicular to the pipe, and the valve is closed, blocking the flow.
