Palindrom

Palindrom is a term used to describe a word, phrase, number, or other sequence of characters that reads the same backward as forward. This characteristic is known as being palindromic. The concept applies across various forms of media and language.

In linguistics, palindromic words are common, such as "level," "madam," or "rotor." Palindromic phrases are more complex, requiring the entire sequence of letters to be read identically in reverse, often ignoring punctuation, capitalization, and spaces. Famous examples include "A man, a plan, a canal: Panama" and "No 'x' in Nixon."

Numerically, palindromic numbers are those that exhibit the same property. For instance, 121, 353, and 9009 are palindromic. This concept can extend to dates, where a date like 02/02/2020 is palindromic when written in certain formats.

The term "palindrome" itself is derived from the Greek words "palin" (again) and "dromos" (way or direction), suggesting a return or running back.
