Palibased

Palibased is a term used in scholarly and digital contexts to describe content, tools, or research that is based on the Pali language. Pali is the ancient language in which much of the Theravāda Buddhist canon was written, and it continues to be used in philological studies and in the creation of reference works.

In textual scholarship, Palibased editions present passages in Pali alongside translations, and Palibased corpora align Pali sentences with glosses and grammatical notes. Palibased projects frequently confront challenges such as character encoding, diacritic accuracy, and variable transliteration practices across manuscripts and traditions.

While the term helps differentiate Pali-centered work from projects based on other languages, it also requires clear definition in use, since "Palibased" could refer to linguistic data derived from Pali, translations of Pali texts, or software built to handle Pali materials.
