Palettihyllystöissä is a Finnish term referring to pallet racking systems. These systems are a common type of industrial storage solution designed to efficiently store and organize palletized goods. They are constructed from durable materials, typically steel, and consist of upright frames and horizontal beams. Pallets are placed onto these beams, allowing for vertical stacking of inventory.

The primary function of pallet racking is to maximize vertical storage space within a warehouse or distribution center. This is achieved by creating multiple levels of storage, significantly increasing the amount of goods that can be stored in a given footprint compared to storing them on the floor. Different types of pallet racking exist, each suited for specific needs, including selective racking, drive-in racking, push-back racking, and pallet flow racking.

Selective pallet racking is the most common type, offering direct access to each pallet. Drive-in racking is designed for high-density storage where forklifts can drive directly into the rack structure. Push-back racking uses a system of carts to store pallets, allowing for last-in, first-out (LIFO) inventory management. Pallet flow racking utilizes gravity rollers for first-in, first-out (FIFO) systems.

The selection of a particular pallet racking system depends on factors such as the type of goods being stored, the required inventory turnover rate, available space, and the type of material handling equipment used. Proper installation and maintenance of pallet racking systems are crucial for safety and operational efficiency in warehousing environments.
