Padjadjaran
Padjadjaran, also spelled Pajajaran in older sources, is a name associated with both a historic Sundanese kingdom and a modern Indonesian university. In historical contexts, Pajajaran referred to the Sunda Kingdom whose heartland was in western Java. Its capital was Pakuan Pajajaran, located near present-day Bogor. The kingdom emerged in the 14th century and became a major center of Sundanese culture, religion, and political power, controlling parts of western Java and developing a distinct Hindu-Buddhist heritage. The kingdom declined in the 16th century as regional Islamization and shifting political dynamics altered the balance of power in the area.
