PXrelated is a metadata convention used in digital asset management and e-commerce to encode relationships between items across catalogs. It provides a lightweight vocabulary for linking items that are related by context, function, or provenance, enabling cross-platform discovery and assisted navigation. The core idea is to attach relational metadata to an item that points to one or more related targets, along with qualifiers that describe the nature and strength of the relationship.

The relationship is represented as a record that includes fields such as target_id, relation, and optional properties like confidence, source, and timestamp. Relation types can include related, complementary, variant_of, derived_from, or predecessor. The formal model can be serialized in JSON-LD, RDF, or simple key-value exports, allowing flexibility for different systems to ingest or emit pxrelated data.

Applications include product catalogs, media libraries, recommendation engines, and search interfaces. Systems can reveal related items in detail pages, navigate to associated assets, or feed downstream analytics with relationship signals. To maximize interoperability, PXrelated encourages the use of stable URIs for items and a controlled vocabulary for relation types.

Limitations include dependence on data quality and potential privacy considerations when linking items across domains. Adoption depends on vendor support and the availability of shared ontologies.
