PVDF, short for polyvinylidene fluoride, is a highly non-reactive thermoplastic fluoropolymer renowned for chemical resistance, mechanical strength, and electrical insulation. It is produced by polymerizing vinylidene fluoride, usually by suspension polymerization, yielding a semi-crystalline resin. PVDF exists as homopolymers and as copolymers such as PVDF-co-hexafluoropropylene (PVDF-HFP). The material resists solvents, acids, and bases, has low water absorption, and exhibits good dielectric properties and thermal stability for many industrial environments. The crystalline phase and degree influence properties including stiffness, clarity, and, in certain grades, piezoelectric behavior in the beta phase.
