PSVs

PSVs stand for Public Service Vehicles in public transport contexts. These are vehicles designed to carry passengers under a public service obligation, such as city buses, regional coaches, and other passenger-carrying vehicles operated under a franchise or license. Regulation typically covers vehicle safety standards, driver qualifications, route licensing, and accessibility requirements; in some jurisdictions a PSV is a specific legal category with vehicle type approvals and annual testing.

PSVs also denote Platform Supply Vessels in offshore maritime operations. They transport equipment, fuel, spare parts, and personnel to and from offshore installations, particularly oil and gas platforms. PSVs are built for deck cargo handling, dynamic positioning, and towing or anchor-handling tasks, with crews typically including deck officers and engineers. They operate worldwide, often under charter, and are designed for safety and operational reliability in challenging sea conditions.

PSVs can also refer to Pressure Safety Valves in engineering and process industries. These are safety devices designed to relieve overpressure in vessels, piping, and systems. They protect pressure vessels, boilers, and pipelines by venting excess pressure to the atmosphere or to a flare system when set pressures are exceeded. Types include spring-loaded and pilot-operated. They are governed by standards such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and API 520/521, with regular testing and maintenance to ensure proper set pressure and blowdown.
