PNÜbergängen, a German term, translates to "PN Junctions" in English. This is a fundamental concept in semiconductor physics and electronics. A PN junction is formed at the boundary between two types of semiconductor materials: p-type and n-type. P-type semiconductors have an excess of holes (positive charge carriers), while n-type semiconductors have an excess of electrons (negative charge carriers). When these two materials are brought into contact, electrons from the n-type region diffuse into the p-type region, and holes from the p-type region diffuse into the n-type region. This diffusion creates a depletion region at the junction, which is devoid of free charge carriers.
