PHPFIG

The PHP Framework Interop Group (PHPFIG) is a collaborative organization of PHP framework and library maintainers formed to promote interoperability in the PHP ecosystem. It publishes PHP Standards Recommendations (PSRs) intended to establish common interfaces, coding standards, and architectural conventions across PHP projects.

PHPFIG operates through a participatory process in which proposals are submitted by members, discussed in public forums and working groups, and, when consensus is reached, published as PSRs. PSRs are designed to be adopted and implemented by independent projects to improve composability and reduce fragmentation in the PHP ecosystem.

The scope of PSRs covers a broad range of topics, including autoloading (PSR-0 and PSR-4), coding standards (PSR-1 and PSR-12, with PSR-2 previously in use), HTTP message interfaces (PSR-7), container interop (PSR-11), and other common interfaces such as logging (PSR-3) and caching (PSR-6 and PSR-16). The group has also developed standards addressing other aspects of PHP development to foster interoperability between components from different authors.

Participation includes many widely used PHP frameworks and libraries, and PSRs are widely adopted to enable interoperability between components from different sources. Although influential, PHPFIG is not a formal legal standards body; its PSRs are recommendations and participation is voluntary. The group maintains a public website with PSR proposals, draft discussions, and membership information.
