PHEVt

PHEVt refers to a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle. This type of vehicle combines a conventional internal combustion engine with an electric motor and a battery pack. The key feature distinguishing it from a standard hybrid is its ability to be plugged into an external electricity source to recharge the battery. This allows for a significant electric-only driving range, often sufficient for daily commutes.

When the battery is depleted or under heavy acceleration, the internal combustion engine engages, acting as a generator or directly powering the wheels. PHEVs offer the flexibility of electric propulsion for shorter trips, reducing fuel consumption and emissions, while retaining the long-range capability of gasoline power for longer journeys. The charging process can be done at home using a standard outlet or a dedicated charging station, or at public charging points. The energy management system within a PHEV intelligently switches between electric and gasoline power to optimize efficiency.
