PETkuvantaan is a Finnish term that translates to "PET imaging center" or "PET scanning facility." PET stands for Positron Emission Tomography, which is a type of nuclear medicine imaging technique used to diagnose and monitor a variety of diseases, most notably cancer. It works by detecting pairs of gamma rays emitted indirectly by a positron-emitting radionuclide (a tracer) that is introduced into the body on a biologically active molecule. These tracers accumulate in specific tissues or organs, and the emitted radiation is detected by the PET scanner, creating a 3D image.
