PCV4
Porcine circovirus type 4 (PCV4) is a member of the Circoviridae family, belonging to the genus Circovirus. It is a small, nonenveloped virus with a circular single-stranded DNA genome, roughly 1.7 kilobases in length. Like other circoviruses, PCV4 is expected to encode at least a replication initiator protein and a capsid protein, and its genome organization supports rolling-circle replication.
PCV4 was first described in pigs in China and has since been identified in additional studies as
The natural host for PCV4 is domestic pigs, with wild boars also suspected to harbor related circoviruses.
The clinical significance of PCV4 remains under investigation. Some studies have detected PCV4 DNA in pigs
Diagnostics primarily use PCR-based assays and sequencing for confirmation. Serological assays and vaccination options are still
