Another type is the plug valve, which uses a tapered or cylindrical plug with a passage. Similar to a ball valve, rotating the plug aligns or obstructs the flow path. These valves are known for their durability and ability to handle high pressures. Butterfly valves, while also featuring rotational movement, are generally considered a separate category. They use a disc that rotates on a central shaft within the flow stream.

Rotary valves are widely used in various industries, including oil and gas, chemical processing, water treatment, and manufacturing. Their straightforward design, ease of operation, and ability to provide a tight seal make them a preferred choice for many fluid control applications. The choice between different types of rotary valves depends on factors such as pressure, temperature, fluid properties, and the required flow characteristics.
