Páncélokat

Páncélokat is the Hungarian word for armor. It refers to protective coverings worn by combatants to shield themselves from physical damage. Historically, armor evolved significantly, from early forms like leather and padded garments to the sophisticated metal suits of the medieval period. These metal armors, often made of hardened steel, could be segmented or made of interlocking plates, offering a high degree of protection against bladed weapons, arrows, and blunt force.

The development of armor was closely linked to the advancement of weaponry. As weapons became more powerful, armor had to become more robust. This led to innovations such as the full plate harness, which covered the entire body and was expertly crafted to allow for a reasonable degree of mobility. Different cultures developed their own distinct styles of armor, influenced by their environment, available materials, and fighting tactics. For example, samurai armor in Japan featured lacquered metal plates and silk cords, while Roman lorica segmentata utilized overlapping metal strips.

While traditional armor largely became obsolete with the advent of firearms, the concept of personal protective equipment, or PPE, continues to be vital in modern times.
