Oyonom

Oyonom is a coastal region and archipelago located in the eastern sea of the North Realm. It comprises a main island and several smaller islets connected by bridges and ferries. The regional capital is Vespera, situated on the eastern shore, and the region has an estimated population of about 120,000 residents.

The name Oyonom is believed to originate from the ancient Oyai language, with oy meaning sea and nom meaning home, a reference to the region's long maritime heritage.

Geographically, Oyonom features rugged coastlines, limestone cliffs, and mangrove inlets. The climate is temperate maritime with mild winters and cool summers. The economy relies on fishing, aquaculture (notably oyster farming), and a growing tourism sector centered on harbors and nature reserves.

Historically, Oyonom developed as a fishing community and trading hub during the medieval era. It became part of the Ardinian federation in the late modern period and gained semi-autonomous local governance in the 19th century, with formal regional status recognized in 1920.

Governance is shared between a locally elected regional council and a governor appointed by the central government. The council handles budget, planning, and culture, while security and foreign relations are managed at the national level.

Demographics are diverse, with the majority speaking the regional dialect of the Ardinian language alongside standard Ardinian. The region observes a mix of secular and traditional religious practices, and it hosts annual maritime festivals and a coastal cuisine tradition featuring seafood and seaweed products.
