Oxigéntartalmát refers to the amount of oxygen present in a given substance or environment. In scientific contexts it is used to describe the density of dissolved oxygen in liquids or the oxygen partial pressure in gases, though the term can apply to solids as well. The measurement of oxygen content is essential in environmental science, industry, medicine and biological research.

In aquatic ecosystems, dissolved oxygen (DO) is typically measured in milligrams per liter (mg/L) using electrochemical probes or optical sensors. The concentration is influenced by temperature, salinity, atmospheric pressure and biological activity. High DO levels indicate healthy water, while low levels can predict anaerobic conditions that are harmful to fish and other organisms. Oxygen content is also evaluated in drinking water and wastewater treatment to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

In atmospheric studies, the oxygen partial pressure is expressed in millimeters of mercury or pascals. The Earth's air contains about 20.95% oxygen, and variations in composition can affect combustion, respiration and weather phenomena. Aviation and aerospace engineering require precise knowledge of oxygen levels for performance calculations and safety assessments.

Industrial applications include monitoring oxygen content in process gases, polymer production, and metal alloy manufacturing, where excess oxygen can introduce defects and impair material properties. In medicine, arterial blood oxygenation is assessed via pulse oximetry or blood gas analysis, with normal SpO2 values ranging from 95% to 100%. Accurate determination of oxygen levels in these contexts supports decision-making and protects health and product quality.
