Oxigénfelvételhez, which translates to "for oxygen uptake" or "for oxygen absorption" in English, refers to the process by which an organism acquires oxygen from its environment. This is a fundamental physiological requirement for most aerobic life forms. The efficiency and mechanisms of oxygen uptake vary significantly across different species and their respective habitats.

In terrestrial animals, oxygen uptake primarily occurs through the respiratory system. For example, humans and many other vertebrates utilize lungs to absorb oxygen from the air. Air is inhaled, passing through the trachea and bronchi to reach the alveoli in the lungs. These tiny air sacs have thin walls and are surrounded by a dense network of capillaries. Oxygen diffuses across the alveolar and capillary membranes into the bloodstream, where it is transported by red blood cells to the body's tissues. Carbon dioxide, a waste product, diffuses in the opposite direction.

Aquatic organisms have evolved different methods for oxygen uptake. Fish, for instance, use gills. Water passes over the gills, which are specialized respiratory organs with numerous filaments rich in blood vessels. Oxygen dissolved in the water diffuses into the blood. Some aquatic invertebrates may absorb oxygen directly through their body surfaces if they are small and have a high surface area to volume ratio.

Plants also engage in gas exchange, including oxygen uptake, though their primary gas exchange involves carbon dioxide for photosynthesis. Oxygen is a byproduct of photosynthesis, but plants also respire, consuming oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide, particularly at night or in non-photosynthetic tissues. Gas exchange in plants typically occurs through small pores called stomata, found on leaves and stems.
