Overinsulating refers to the practice of installing more thermal insulation in a building than is necessary to achieve optimal energy efficiency and comfort. While insulation is essential for reducing heat transfer, excessive insulation can lead to unintended consequences, particularly in well-sealed or tightly constructed homes.

The primary concern with overinsulating is the potential for excessive moisture buildup. In cold climates, warm indoor air can carry moisture that condenses on cold surfaces, such as walls or attic framing.
