Overføringsspänningar, a Swedish term, translates to "transfer voltages" or "transmission voltages" in English. It refers to the voltage levels used in the transmission of electrical power over long distances. High voltage transmission is employed to minimize energy loss due to resistance in the power lines. The lower the current for a given power, the less energy is dissipated as heat. Since power is the product of voltage and current (P=VI), increasing the voltage allows for a corresponding decrease in current while maintaining the same power delivery.

These high voltages, often in the hundreds of kilovolts (kV), necessitate specialized infrastructure. Transmission lines are typically carried on tall pylons and use thick, multi-strand conductors to handle the immense electrical flow. Substations are crucial components of the transmission system.
