Otsetoega

Otsetoega is a small municipality located in the central highlands of the fictional country of Ithara. The town covers an area of approximately 42 square kilometres and is situated at an elevation of 1,240 metres above sea level. According to the 2022 census, the population is about 3,500 residents, with a density of roughly 83 inhabitants per square kilometre. The demographic composition is predominantly homogeneous, with a minority of indigenous Teshk people.

The settlement traces its origins to the late 18th century when a group of agrarian families established a farming community along the fertile slopes of the Seteb River. During the 19th century, otsetoega grew steadily as a local market centre for grain and livestock. The municipality was officially recognised in 1907, and its administrative boundaries were extended in 1974 to incorporate the surrounding hamlets.

Economically, otsetoega remains largely agricultural, specialising in barley, wheat and dairy production. A small manufacturing sector produces woven textiles and wooden crafts geared towards regional markets. Tourism has modestly expanded in recent years, with visitors attracted by the rural landscape and the annual St. Michael's Day festival, which features traditional music, dance and cuisine.

Points of interest in the area include the 12th‑century Saint Michael church, the otsetoega nature reserve that hosts several rare alpine plant species, and the nearby Goplin Gorge, popular for hiking trails. The town’s cultural life is maintained through the annual otsetoega Cultural Forum, which showcases local artists and oral histories.
