OsloTrondheim

OsloTrondheim is a term used to describe the transport corridor between Oslo, the capital of Norway, and Trondheim, a major regional center. The concept covers the primary travel routes by rail and road that connect the two cities and the communities along the route.

The main rail component is the Dovre Line (Dovrebanen), which runs from Oslo Central Station to Trondheim Central Station via Lillehammer and Dombås. The line is electrified and is used by passenger services operated by Vy, plus freight traffic.

The corridor is also served by the European route E6, a major north-south highway that parallels parts of the railway and connects Oslo to Trondheim via towns such as Kongsvinger, Lillehammer, Dombås, and Oppdal.

Historically, the OsloTrondheim corridor has been a central artery for Norway's domestic mobility and economy, fostering regional development and trade. The rail line has undergone electrification and modernization to improve capacity, reliability, and travel times.

Planning documents and public discourse have considered further enhancements to the route, including speed upgrades, signaling modernization, and potential expansions to accommodate growing passenger and freight demand.
