Orpingtons are a breed of domestic chicken originating in the town of Orpington in Kent, England. They were developed by William Cook in the late 19th century. Initially, Cook aimed to create a dual-purpose breed that would be a good layer of brown eggs and a plump broiler for the table. The first Orpingtons were black, but other popular color varieties such as buff, white, and blue soon followed.
