Optoelektroonika

Optoelektroonika is a field of electronics that deals with the study and application of electronic devices and systems that source, detect, and control light, usually in the visible and near-infrared spectrum. The term is a combination of "opto" (referring to light) and "elektroonika" (referring to electronics). Optoelectronic devices are used in a wide range of applications, from telecommunications and data storage to medical imaging and consumer electronics.

The fundamental components of optoelectronics include light-emitting diodes (LEDs), photodiodes, and lasers. LEDs convert electrical energy into light, making them essential for lighting, displays, and optical communication. Photodiodes, on the other hand, convert light into electrical energy, and are used in sensors, imaging devices, and solar cells. Lasers, which produce coherent light, are used in various applications such as optical storage, medical procedures, and telecommunications.

Optoelectronic systems often involve the integration of these components with electronic circuits to create functional devices. For example, in optical communication systems, LEDs or lasers are used to transmit data, which is then received by photodiodes and converted back into electrical signals. In imaging systems, light from a scene is captured by a photodiode array and converted into an electrical signal, which is then processed to create an image.

Researchers are continually developing new materials and devices to improve the efficiency, speed, and functionality of optoelectronic systems.
