Optimalas

Optimalas is a genus of flowering plants in the family Orchidaceae. It is a small group of species, currently comprising only two recognized species. The genus is native to tropical Africa, specifically in the regions of Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon.

The plants of this genus are epiphytic, meaning they grow on other surfaces, such as trees or branches, without deriving moisture or nutrients from their host. Optimalas species have thick, succulent stems that store water and nutrients, allowing them to thrive in areas with limited resources.

Optimalas are recognized by their two-lobed labellum, which is a distinctive feature of the genus. The flowers typically range in color from yellow to orange, with the corolla and label channeling forming a tube-like structure.

There are only two species of Optimalas: O. imbricata and O. leptorchis. O. imbricata has been reported from Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, while O. leptorchis has been found in Gabon. The distribution range of the genus is limited to the tropical forests of Central Africa.

Very little is known about the ecology and behavior of Optimalas. However, given the tropical regions in which they are found, it can be inferred that they are adapted to high temperatures and high humidity. Further research is needed to shed light on the natural history and conservation status of these plants.
