Operaris

Operaris is a Latin term with several grammatical senses. In Latin grammar, operaris is the second-person singular present indicative form of the deponent verb operari, meaning to work or to be occupied. Deponent verbs are passive in form but active in meaning, so a typical translation is “you work” or “you are working.” Other forms of the same verb include operor (I work), operatur (he works), and operamini (you all work). The root oper- derives from the concept of work or labor.

The related noun operarius, with plural operarii, designates a worker or laborer and appears in various Latin texts to refer to workers, artisans, or civil servants depending on context. In classical and medieval usage, operarii could denote members of a crafts organization, labor groups, or individuals employed for a task or project. The term occurs in legal, administrative, and ecclesiastical writings as a designation of persons performing work.
