The word is formed from the noun ootus, meaning “expectation,” with the adjectival suffix -lik. In inflected usage, ootuslik is the base form, and ootusliku appears in the genitive singular, used when qualifying another noun, as in ootusliku meeleolu, “an expectational mood.”
