OostIndië
OostIndië, or the Dutch East Indies, was the Netherlands' vast colonial possessions in Southeast Asia, roughly corresponding to present-day Indonesia. Originating in the 17th century with the Dutch East India Company, these territories were brought under direct Dutch state control in 1800 and remained a central part of the Dutch empire until sovereignty was transferred in 1949. The administrative center was Batavia on Java, and governance was led by a Governor-General, with a system of residencies and courts.
