Onkológia is the branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. It encompasses a wide range of medical professionals, including oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, and nurses, who work collaboratively to manage cancer patients. The field has seen significant advancements in recent decades, leading to improved survival rates and quality of life for many individuals diagnosed with cancer.

Diagnosis of cancer typically involves a combination of medical history, physical examination, imaging techniques such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRI, and laboratory tests including blood work and biopsies. Biopsies, where a small sample of suspicious tissue is removed and examined under a microscope, are crucial for confirming the presence of cancer and determining its type and stage.

Treatment approaches for cancer are diverse and depend on the type, stage, and location of the cancer, as well as the patient's overall health. Common treatment modalities include surgery to remove tumors, chemotherapy to kill cancer cells throughout the body, radiation therapy to target and destroy cancer cells with high-energy rays, and immunotherapy, which harnesses the body's own immune system to fight cancer. Targeted therapy and hormone therapy are also used for specific types of cancer.
