Ommandamise is a term found in Estonian legal language that refers to the process of acquiring ownership or possession of property or rights. It encompasses the steps by which a person or entity gains legal title to an asset and has the authority to use, sell, or otherwise dispose of it as the owner.

Etymology and usage: The word derives from the Estonian root omand, meaning possession or ownership, with the noun-forming suffix -amine. In practice, omandamise describes both voluntary acquisitions, such as purchases, gifts, or inheritance, and, less commonly, involuntary or compulsory acquisitions conducted by state authorities under applicable law.

Legal framework: Acquisition of property generally involves a legal act or contract, delivery or transfer of possession, and registration in a public or official registry to recognize the new owner.
