Omdirigerad

Omdirigerad is a Swedish term that describes a resource, typically a web page, that automatically forwards a user or a request to another resource. In practice, a page or URL is marked as redirected when the content has moved, been renamed, or is otherwise intended to point to a different destination. Redirects help preserve bookmarks, maintain search engine indexing, and improve user experience by guiding users to the correct content.

On the web, redirects are implemented using HTTP status codes. The most common are 301 Permanent Redirect and 302 Found for temporary redirects; other codes include 303 See Other, 307 Temporary Redirect, and 308 Permanent Redirect. The target URL is provided in the Location header of the server response. Redirects are configured in web servers and CMS platforms, for example with Apache modules (mod_alias, mod_rewrite) and Nginx rewrites, or in wiki systems through page-level directives.

In wiki contexts, a redirected page is often labeled with the status “Omdirigerad” and contains a directive that points to the target page. In MediaWiki, for instance, a redirect page typically uses a directive like #REDIRECT [[Target]] and displays a link to the target page to readers. The presence of a redirect can influence how users navigate the site and how search engines index the content.

Best practices focus on clarity and stability: use permanent redirects (301) when content is moved permanently, monitor for broken or looping redirects, avoid unnecessary chains, and ensure the target exists. Properly managed redirects improve accessibility, preserve link equity, and reduce user frustration.
