Etymology and classification: The name derives from a fictional language family called Olmaric. In common renderings, “olma” is a verb root meaning to become or to grow, with the plural-definite suffix -rna forming the group name. This construction is typical of the imagined linguistic setting.

Geography and language: In many portrayals, olmalarna inhabit a highland plateau in the imagined region of Valrûn. The society is organized into extended kin groups. Their language, Olmari, is described as an agglutinative, subject–object–verb language with evidential mood and a rich system of classifiers, reflecting regional dialect variation across settlements.

Culture and economy: The olmalarna practice terraced agriculture, pastoral herding, and crafts such as textiles and pottery. Social life centers on clan shrines, seasonal gatherings, and oral storytelling that preserves genealogies and local hero myths.
