Ocampa

Ocampa is a fictional species from the Star Trek universe, primarily featured in the television series Star Trek: Voyager. Ocampa are a humanoid species known for their extremely short lifespans, typically living only nine years. This rapid aging is a fundamental aspect of their biology and culture. Their appearance is generally humanoid, with distinctive pointed ears and often a pale complexion. They possess a latent psychic ability, a form of telepathy that manifests differently among individuals, sometimes as empathy and other times as more potent telekinetic powers. This ability is often suppressed or undeveloped due to their short lives and lack of extensive training.

The Ocampa homeworld is also named Ocampa. For centuries, their society was supported by a mysterious, benevolent entity known as the Caretaker. The Caretaker provided for all their needs, including advanced technology and protection, which inadvertently led to a decline in Ocampa self-sufficiency and a stagnant technological and cultural development. When the Caretaker disappeared, the Ocampa were left to fend for themselves, facing environmental degradation and societal collapse. The crew of the USS Voyager encountered the Ocampa shortly after the Caretaker's departure and became involved in their plight, as well as the fate of a particular Ocampa named Kes, who joined Voyager's crew.
