Objektivvergrößerung

Objektivvergrößerung refers to the magnification power of the objective lens in an optical instrument, most commonly a microscope or telescope. The objective lens is the lens closest to the object being viewed. Its primary function is to gather light from the specimen and form an initial magnified image.

The magnification of the objective lens is typically printed on its side, often as a number followed by "x" (e.g., 4x, 10x, 40x). This number indicates how many times larger the image produced by the objective lens appears compared to the actual size of the object. For example, a 10x objective lens will make the object appear 10 times larger.

In a compound microscope, the total magnification of the instrument is calculated by multiplying the magnification of the objective lens by the magnification of the eyepiece (ocular lens). Therefore, a 40x objective lens used with a 10x eyepiece will result in a total magnification of 400x.

The choice of objective lens magnification is crucial for observing details at different scales. Lower magnification objectives are used to view a wider field of view and locate the specimen, while higher magnification objectives are used to examine fine structures and details. Different objective lenses often have varying numerical apertures (NA), which affect both magnification and the resolution of the image.
