Objektglaset

Objektglaset is a term often encountered in microscopy. It refers to the glass slide upon which a specimen is placed for observation under a microscope. Typically, it is a thin, rectangular piece of glass, measuring approximately 75 by 25 millimeters, though variations exist. The specimen is carefully positioned on the surface of the objektglas, and often a coverslip, a smaller, thinner piece of glass, is placed over it to protect the microscope's objective lens and provide a flat surface for focusing.

The purpose of the objektglas is to provide a stable and transparent platform that allows light to pass through the specimen, enabling magnification and detailed examination. Various types of objektglas are available, including plain, frosted, or pre-marked slides, catering to different experimental needs. Frosted slides, for instance, allow for labeling of the specimen. Some specialized objektglas may also have grids or other markings to aid in measurement or location. Proper handling and preparation of the objektglas are crucial for obtaining clear and accurate microscopic images.
