Nútímamóðurborð

Nútímamóðurborð is the Icelandic term for a modern motherboard. A motherboard, also known as a mainboard, system board, or logic board, is the central component of a computer. It serves as the primary circuit board that connects all the other components of a computer together. These components include the central processing unit (CPU), memory (RAM), hard drive, graphics card, and various expansion cards.

Modern motherboards are highly complex and are designed with specific chipsets that determine compatibility with certain processors and other hardware. They feature a variety of connectors and slots, such as CPU sockets, RAM slots, PCI Express slots for graphics cards and other peripherals, SATA ports for storage devices, and USB ports for external devices. The BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) or UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) stored on a chip on the motherboard initializes the hardware during the boot-up process and provides an interface for configuring system settings.

The form factor of a motherboard, such as ATX, Micro-ATX, or Mini-ITX, dictates its size and the number of expansion slots it can accommodate, influencing the overall size and expandability of the computer system. Advancements in motherboard technology continue to focus on increasing data transfer speeds, improving power efficiency, and integrating more features to support the latest hardware and emerging technologies.
