Nuotista

Nuotista is the Italian term for a swimmer, particularly one who participates in competitive swimming. While nuotatore (male) and nuotatrice (female) are gendered forms, nuotista is widely used as a gender-neutral designation in sports media, clubs, and federation contexts. The word derives from nuoto, swimming.

Nuotisti train with swimming clubs or national teams under coaches. Training typically involves multiple daily sessions that combine technique work (strokes, starts, turns) with conditioning and race pacing. They may specialize in one or more strokes—freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly—or compete in individual medley and relay events.
