Nuiqsut

Nuiqsut is a city located in the North Slope Borough of Alaska, United States. Situated on the northern coastal plain of Alaska, it is one of the many villages in the region with a strong connection to subsistence living. The city's name, Nuiqsut, is derived from the Iñupiat language and means "place to look for shorebirds."

The primary economic activities in Nuiqsut have historically been, and continue to be, subsistence hunting and fishing. Residents rely on traditional practices to gather food from the surrounding environment, including caribou, seals, whales, and various fish species. This subsistence lifestyle is deeply intertwined with the cultural identity of the community.
