Nozzins

Nozzins are a fictional intelligent species described in the Eldoria science fiction setting, native to the brackish wetlands of the Verdant Delta. They are known for their modular, tentacle-like appendages and for a cooperative, clan-based society. The name derives from their prominent nozzle-like feeding siphons, which they use to filter invertebrates and to interact socially.

Physically they range from 0.6 to 0.9 meters long. They have a soft, segmented body with a flexible outer skin that can shade from moss green to slate gray. They possess two large stalked eyes and a pair of ventral siphons that can extend into a feeding canal or retract as touch organs. They breathe through gills when submerged and through the skin in damp air.

They inhabit mangrove estuaries, river deltas, and flooded forests. Their diet is omnivorous, including algae, crustaceans, and fallen fruit. Foraging is often coordinated: groups converge around a feeding site and use synchronized siphon flicks and light-producing glands to communicate. Socially, Nozzins live in extended clans led by elder females, with resource sharing and mutual defense as core practices.

Reproduction occurs seasonally; eggs hatch into free-swimming larvae that develop into juveniles within a sheltered nursery. Parental care is communal, and learning is transmitted through apprenticeship.

In fiction, Nozzins appear in multiple novels and games as symbols of cooperative intelligence and ecological adaptation, often used to explore themes of interdependence and habitat stewardship.
