Nortonmudelina

Nortonmudelina is a genus of extinct fish that lived during the Early Carboniferous period. It was a species of chondrostelean fish, which is a group that includes modern sturgeons and paddlefish. Nortonmudelina fossils have been found in Scotland, specifically in the Fife region, where it was discovered in a geological formation dating back to around 330 million years ago.

The name "Nortonmudelina" is derived from the location of the initial discoveries, along with a reference to its unknown classification. Nortonmudelina is notable for its relatively large size, reaching lengths of up to 1 meter. Its skeleton consists mainly of cartilage and it has a long, eel-like body. It had pair fins and a dorsal fin, along with a tail. The mouth was relatively small and short compared to other ancient fish.
