Njurfunktionstillstånd refers to the overall health and performance of the kidneys. Kidneys are vital organs responsible for filtering waste products and excess fluid from the blood to produce urine. They also play a crucial role in regulating blood pressure, electrolyte balance, and the production of red blood cells.

Assessing kidney function typically involves a combination of blood and urine tests. Blood tests, such as serum creatinine and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), measure how well the kidneys are filtering waste. Urine tests can detect the presence of protein, blood, or other abnormalities that may indicate kidney damage.

Treatment strategies depend on the underlying cause and the severity of the impairment and may involve medication, dietary changes, and lifestyle modifications. In advanced cases, kidney replacement therapies like dialysis or transplantation may be necessary.
