Nivaranas
Nivaranas is a term that can refer to several concepts, primarily within religious and philosophical contexts. In Buddhism, a nivarana is a mental obstruction or hindrance that prevents progress on the spiritual path. There are five cardinal nivaranas: sensual desire, ill-will, sloth and torpor, restlessness and worry, and doubt. These are seen as obstacles to concentration (samadhi) and insight (vipassana), and practitioners aim to overcome them through meditation and mindfulness.
