Nikka Whisky Distilling Co., Ltd., commonly known as Nikka, is a Japanese whiskey producer established in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, a chemist who studied whisky-making in Scotland, with support from Shinjiro Torii, founder of Suntory. The company founded its first distillery on the Yoichi coast of Hokkaido to emulate Scotch whisky production, initiating what would become a prominent line of single malts and blends marketed worldwide.
