Nijal is a fictional city-state in the eastern archipelago of the Valedorn Sea, created for fantasy literature and role-playing games. It serves as a mercantile hub with a long maritime heritage and functions as a focal point for regional politics and trade in multiple narratives.

Geography and urban layout: The city centers on a natural harbor sheltered by a limestone bluff. The Old Harbor abuts the quay, while inland hills rise to the Highlands Quarter, where markets, granaries, and workshops cluster along terraced streets.

History: Nijal traces its roots to early sailors who settled along the coast. It rose to prominence during the Masaran trade era, endured earthquakes and raids, and later reasserted independence under a rotating magistracy established in the 14th century.

Government and economy: The city is governed by the Grand Council, composed of guildmasters from trade, shipbuilding, and crafts, elected by freemen every five years. A magistrate known as the Prefect serves as executive. Its economy centers on maritime trade, ship repair, glassmaking, and textiles.

Culture and landmarks: Nijal hosts the Lantern Night festival and the Feast of Winds, reflecting its maritime culture. Notable landmarks include the Lighthouse of Nijal, the Gate of Saffron, and the Temple of Winds, which define the city’s silhouette and civic identity.
