NieuwMexico is a Dutch fortified trading post on the coast of the island of Manhattan, in present-day New York City. Established in 1624 by the Dutch West India Company, it was originally known as Nieuw Amsterdam. The colony was renamed NieuwMexico by the Dutch in 1630, a name which reflects its strategic location near the mouth of the Hudson River.
