It is one of the world's largest gold producers by output and by market capitalization. The company traces its origins to 1921, when William Boyce Thompson founded Newmont Mining Company. In 2019, Newmont merged with Canada’s Goldcorp, forming the current Newmont Corporation and creating the largest gold producer by annual output.
