In proposed models, a neutronantalet consists of an ordered array of isotopically tailored constituents embedded in a supporting matrix to shape coherent scattering.

Structure and properties: Typical proposals describe sizes from a few nanometers up to tens of nanometers. The key feature is resonant enhancement at selected neutron energies, produced by the arrangement of isotopes with favorable scattering lengths and absorption cross-sections. Fabrication and control: Suggested fabrication routes include self-assembly of isotope-enriched nanoclusters, lithographic patterning of multilayer thin films, or ion-beam implantation to create the desired lattice.
