Netwerkroute

Netwerkroute, in computing and telecommunications, is the path that data packets follow through a network from a source node to a destination node. The route is determined by routers that implement routing decisions on the basis of routing information stored in routing tables and exchanged via routing protocols. Routes can be static, manually configured and fixed, or dynamic, learned automatically through protocols that adapt to changes in topology and network load.

Routing tables contain entries that map destination prefixes to next-hop addresses or interfaces. A router selects the best route using metrics such as hop count, latency, bandwidth, reliability, and policy. The next hop is the next router or network interface on the path toward the destination. The concept applies to both local networks and the broader Internet.

Common interior gateway protocols include OSPF, IS-IS, and EIGRP, while BGP is used for inter-domain routing on the public Internet. In IPv4 and IPv6 networks, the netwerkroute is computed in similar terms: packets are forwarded by routers toward their destination according to the chosen route.

Routes can change due to topology changes, link failures, traffic engineering, or policy adjustments. Dynamic routing enables resilience and efficient use of network resources, but misconfigurations or instability can lead to route flapping or suboptimal paths. Security concerns include the risk of route spoofing or tampering, necessitating authentication of routing updates and careful configuration.
