Nettomängder

Nettomängder, or net quantities, refers to the actual amount of product contained within packaging, excluding the weight of the packaging itself. This concept is crucial in commerce and consumer protection as it ensures that consumers are paying for the product and not for the container. For instance, when you buy a jar of jam, the net quantity will state the weight of the jam, not the jam plus the glass jar and lid.

Regulations regarding net quantities are in place in most countries to prevent misleading labeling and ensure fair trade practices. These regulations often specify how net quantities should be measured, expressed (e.g., grams, kilograms, milliliters, liters), and displayed on product packaging. The "tare weight," which is the weight of the packaging, is therefore subtracted from the gross weight (product plus packaging) to determine the net quantity.

Understanding net quantities helps consumers make informed purchasing decisions. It allows for direct comparison of product value between different brands and sizes, as the focus is solely on the amount of usable product.
