Nepaleselanguage

Nepaleselanguage is a constructed language designed for linguistic study and for use in speculative fiction that imagines a Nepalese-speaking world. It draws on Nepali phonology and vocabulary while introducing experimental features to explore how form and meaning interact in a Nepal-like setting. There are no native speakers; the language exists mainly in grammars, dictionaries, and online communities.

Classification and history: Nepaleselanguage was created in the early 2010s by a linguist for academic and creative purposes. It is not part of a natural language family. The design emphasizes a balance between recognizability for Nepali speakers and deliberately novel grammar to test typological ideas. Several handbooks and learning materials have been published by fans and scholars.

Phonology and writing: The sound system includes vowels /i e a o u/ and consonants such as p t k b d g m n s r l h j. Syllables are typically (C)(C)V(C); stress falls on the penultimate syllable; there is no lexical tone. Nepaleselanguage uses two writing systems: a Devanagari-derived script for native texts and a Latin transliteration for international readers. Digraphs and diacritics mark aspirated stops and retroflexes in the transliteration.

Grammar: The language is analytic with a dominant subject–object–verb order. Postpositions mark case; pronouns distinguish inclusive and exclusive first person plural. Verbs use auxiliary particles to express aspect; nouns have no grammatical gender and show limited inflection.

Vocabulary and usage: Core lexicon borrows from Nepali, Sanskrit, and Tibetan sources, with productive compounding to form neologisms. English and other languages contribute loanwords in modern domains. Nepaleselanguage is maintained by hobbyist communities and used in educational materials, role-playing, and fiction, but it has no official status.
